Join us this month, when Steve Hewins, President + CEO of HospitalityMaine shares his views on what the hospitality industry has learned while navigating through the pandemic, and how the future for Maine’s restaurants and hotels will be much different in the post-Covid hospitality world.
Hospitality is one of the biggest employers of LA's workforce, and has been hardest hit by the pandemic; with restaurants and lodging seeing disruptions to operations and crippling restrictions from Maine CDC and DECD. Steve will provide an overview of the region’s hospitality industry in perspective to the state and regional economy, and share both heartbreaking stories and silver lining successes learned so far; finishing with notes about what to look for in 2021 and beyond.
Steve Hewins has a long career in travel and hospitality. After graduating from the University of Maine, he started Hewins Travel from his Portland apartment, eventually becoming the largest travel agency in Maine with 11 offices and 70 employees. He sold the business to AAA Northern New England in 2007 becoming AAA’s VP of Travel and Operations. Leaving AAA in 2013 to focus on Maine, he become the executive director of Portland Downtown District, and in 2016 was hired by the organization he leads today.
