Auburn SUFU Speaking Up for Us Advocacy Event Meeting a Self-Advocacy Explained and Community Connection
Thursday, April 9, 2026 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)
Description

We’re bringing self-advocates together on April 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Auburn Resource Center for a morning of connection, learning, and speaking up for what matters.
Speaking Up for Us (SUFU) is a statewide self-advocacy organization run by and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). SUFU members speak up for their rights, share their experiences, and take action to make their communities more inclusive and welcoming.
SUFU members have been working locally to promote leadership and accessibility. Our members work to ensure that they know how to speak up for their good life. Recently, the Central Aroostook Chapter worked with the Presque Isle Library to develop a Story Walk Stroll. The Northern Penobscot Chapter put in the work to assess Jerry Pond and met with the Millinocket Town Council, where they received unanimous support.
