The Maine Compact on Immigration: Why policy affecting immigrants matters to Maine’s economy
The Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce recently joined 95 other Maine businesses, chambers of commerce, trade associations, and higher education institutions in supporting the Maine Compact on Immigration. This discussion will focus on how federal and local policies affecting immigration and immigrants impact Maine’s economy, and why the Compact has been launched in 2021.
Presenter: Beth Stickney, Esq. Executive Director, Maine Business Immigration Coalition
Beth Stickney is a Maine native and a lawyer who has specialized in immigration law and policy for more than thirty years, in private practice, the nonprofit sector, and internationally. Together with Dana Connors of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and Carla Dickstein, then of Coastal Enterprises, Inc., she founded the Maine Business Immigration Coalition (MeBIC), Maine’s only resource dedicated to providing information, education, and advocacy on immigration and related issues for and from the business and economic perspective. MeBIC helped launch the Maine Compact on Immigration initiative.
