Some of the trickiest issues that HR managers face on a daily basis are employee requests for time off due to illness—whether it’s their own illness or a family member’s. What questions can you ask? Can you ask for documentation? How long can an employee be out of work? Do you have to leave their position empty while they are out? What if an employee doesn’t know when he or she will be back to work? What if you receive information suggesting that an employee isn’t really sick?
