Cultural Awareness in the Workplace - What you need to know when employing refugees
This training will provide an overview of some immigration statuses and focus on refugees and asylees in particular. We’ll talk about the process of refugee resettlement. We’ll review some recommendations for employers on hiring refugees.
Presenter: Marina Chakmakchi / GEAR Project Manager
Marina Chakmakchi has extensive experience working with populations from diverse backgrounds and cultures. She holds degrees in Law (from Russia) and in Public Policy and Management (from the US). She has lived and worked in four different countries and possesses a strong global perspective. She currently manages the Wilson-Fish TANF Coordination Program grant which provides culturally and linguistically appropriate, customized employment-related services to help refugees and immigrants become socially and economically self-sufficient. She coordinates project activities with Fedcap Inc. - Maine’s TANF administrator agency. She also focuses on strengthening local supportive refugee services and promoting willingness/ability of employers to hire and support refugees and immigrants.
